KOO-TAN FACE BIG TEST IN QUARTER-FINALS
KUALA LUMPUR (JAN 8, 2008): Former World No. 1s Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong reached the quarter-finals of the Proton Malaysia Open with a straight games victory over compatriots Mohd Razif Abdul Latif-Chan Peng Soon at the Putra Stadium today.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong, who capped a mediocre 2008 by winning the Yonex Sunrise World Super Series Masters Finals title in Kota Kinabalu, showed they are well and truly back on track with their 21-17, 21-10 win over their team mates.
Following a barren 2008, in which their biggest win was the Macau Open, the two young guns, have taken it upon themselves to prove their critics wrong by getting back to their successful paths.
They showed their old fire when they swept to the Masters Finals but will face their biggest test tomorrow.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong have hardly been troubled in the Malaysia Open but will face second seeds Jung jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae tomorrow for a place in the semi-finals.
The South Koreans reached the final eight when they defeated teammates Han Sang Hoon-Hwang Ji Man 21-15, 21-17.
The other pairs who have made it through to the last eight are Danish third seeds Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen, England's Anthony Clark-Nathan Robertson top seeded Indonesians Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan.
Markis-Hendra reached the quarter-finals when they beat Malaysians Hoon Thien How-Lim Khim Wah 21-17, 21-18 in 27 minutes.
